Mahmood Sarram was born in a poor family of Isfahan, Iran. He grew up in Tehran. He was very meritorious from his early age. He got scholarship to study medicine in Germany. He fulfilled a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Chicago. He practiced medicine and taught at the Universities of Shiraz and Isfahan returning his home. He also published articles and helped starting family planning programs in Iran. Later he emigrated to the U.S. and entered private practice in Washington State. He founded the American Moslem Foundation (AMF) to foster understanding of Islam among Americans and to educate American Muslim children about their cultural and religious heritage in 1988. He is widely read in the literature of Islam as well.
